Description
The brave Kajiwara Genta Kagesue (梶原源太景季), a samurai in the service to the Minamoto clan (源氏), after having cut a flowering branch from a plum tree to stuck it into his quiver and make it his emblem, immersed in the fragrance of the flowers impetuously fights against many warriors of the Taira clan (平氏), on the occasion of the great battle that took place in the Ikuta forest (生田の森), during the Genpei War (源平合戦).
The work presented here, of the kuchi-e (口絵) type, is a very rare woodblock print made in the 1890s by the artist Adachi Ginko (安達吟光) as a frontispiece to a novel.
The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging and the imperfections visible on the margins, is in fair condition.
