SOLD
Beautiful polychrome woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format depicting a suggestive night view of Mount Fuji (富士山), whose snow-capped peak, framed by pine trees, stands out against the darkness of the sky. The work, entitled "Mount Fuji from the Road of Hakone" (箱根街道の富士), is taken from a series of twelve prints of famous views of Japan made by the artist Okada Koichi (岡田行一) and produced in the 1950s by the Unsodo (芸艸堂) publishing house. The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), on the left margin of which we also read the seals of the carver Okura Hanbei (大倉半兵衛) and the printer Nakayama Makoto (中山誠人), is presented here in a later edition made from the original woodblocks and is in very good condition.
