Rare original woodblock print of the kuchi-e (口絵) type, made as the frontispiece of a novel by the writer and journalist Emi Suiin (江見水蔭) entitled "The Swordsman" (剣客) and depicting a samurai carrying a young woman on his shoulders in a bamboo forest.

The work, by the artist Takeuchi Keishu (武内桂舟), is taken from the third issue of the literary magazine Meiji Bunko (明治文庫), published in November 1893 by the Hakubunkan (博文館) publishing house.

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging, some slight defects on the margins and the presence of gluing residues visible on the back, is in good condition.
