Beautiful woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format depicting Matsumoto Castle (松本城) in Shinshu (信州), that is in today's Nagano prefecture (長野県). A few bats are flying over the imposing building and their silhouettes stand out against the sunset sky adorned with a waxing crescent moon.

The work, dated on the left margin "1934 Summer" (昭和九年夏), was made by the artist Kasamatsu Shiro (笠松紫浪) and is presented here in a later edition of the Heisei (平成) period printed from the original woodblocks by Horikawa Shozaburo (堀川昭三郎).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), produced by the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo (渡辺庄三郎), is in very good general condition.
