Beautiful polychrome woodblock print of horizontal large oban (大判) format made by the artist Tsukioka Kogyo (月岡耕漁), student and adopted son of the famous Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (月岡芳年), and depicting a geisha tuning a shamisen (三味線) lute.

The work, produced in February 1901 by the publisher Matsuki Heikichi (松木平吉), owner of Daikokuya (大黒屋), is taken from the series Miyako no Nishiki (都の錦), that is "Brocades of the Capital", and is entitled "Singing Woman" (唄い女).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging including slight stains on the margins, is in good general condition.
