Delicate painting on shikishi (色紙) depicting a cat on a cherry tree in bloom. In Japanese society the sakura (桜) catalyzes many symbolic values. Among the different meanings attributed to the cherry blossom stands out undoubtedly that of the transience of life: the extreme beauty of the flowers and their rapid fall seem to remind people both the good fortune to participate in the magnificent cycle of life, and the ineluctable brevity of the human parable. The work was made by Nishimura Kingyo (西村欣魚), an appreciated artist born in Nara (奈良市) in 1964 and graduated from the Kyoto City University of Arts (京都市立芸術大学). The painting, made on a thick cardboard with golden edges, is in very good condition.
