Elegant polychrome woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format made in July 1896 by the artist Yosai Nobukazu (楊斎延一) and depicting in the foreground a peacock on a flowering cherry tree.

The work, entitled "Peacock and Sakura" (孔雀 櫻), is a rare specimen of the series "Newly Selected Images of Flowers and Birds" (新撰花鳥画), produced by the publisher Tsunajima Kamekichi (綱島亀吉).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙) has a horizontal fold mark, a small hole on the left and a few tiny holes on the top right, as well as some imperfections on the margins and corners including a slight pressure mark from a paper clip.
