SOLD
Precious woodblock printed double-page illustration made in 1824 by the artist Utagawa Kunitora (歌川国虎) and depicting a snowy landscape. On the waters of the river we see several yanebune (屋根船) pleasure boats, on board of which some elegant courtesans are entertaining their guests. The work presented here is taken from the first volume (上) of "The Thousand Mile Lens" (千里鏡), an erotic shunga (春画) book made by the artist in collaboration with Enkobo Tsukinari (猿猴坊月成), pseudonym of the writer Utei Enba II (二世烏亭焉馬). The two rare pages printed on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right and obvious signs of aging, are in fair general condition.
