SOLD
Original woodblock print of horizontal chuban (中判) format depicting a beautiful view of the Sumida River (隅田川) from the perspective of the Makura Bridge (枕橋), in Mukojima (向島) district. In the background of the work, on the left above the foliage of the trees, we can see the roof of the main building and the five-story pagoda of the Kinryuzan Sensoji Temple (金龍山浅草寺) in Asakusa (浅草). The woodcut, made by the artist Shosai Ikkei (昇斎一景), is titled "Makurabashi" (枕はし) and is taken from the "Thirty-Six Views of Tokyo" (東京三十六景), a series produced in 1871 by the publisher Tsutaya Kichizo (蔦屋吉蔵), owner of Koeido (紅英堂). The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging and, in particular, small holes and restorations on the top and right margins as well as in the title box, is in overall good condition.
