Important original woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format made by the artist Ogata Gekko (尾形月耕) and depicting a dragon, shrouded in dark rain clouds, soaring into the sky. The majestic Mount Fuji (富士山) is towering, in the background, above the legendary creature.

The work, taken from the series "Miscellaneous Sketches by Gekko" (月耕随筆) is entitled "Ryu Shoten" (龍昇天), that is "Dragon Rising up to Heaven", and was produced in November 1897 by the publisher Matsuki Heikichi (松木平吉).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging including small spots, is in overall very good condition.
