Fine woodblock reprint of a work made around the mid 19th century by the artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (歌川国芳) in collaboration with the publisher Ibaya Kyubei (伊場屋久兵衛). The woodblock print of the uchiwa-e (団扇絵) type, that is intended for the decoration of a bamboo uchiwa (団扇) fan, is titled "Ten Days Rain" (十日の雨).

The print depicts a beautiful woman running in the night rain, taking care that the water does not extinguish the lantern she is carrying. The design has a fresh youthfulness and a great vitality. Notice the realistic touches of the scene, for example, the damp wisps of hair at the side of the woman's head.

The woodblock print on Japanese washi paper (和紙) was made, as we read in the seal on the back, by the prestigious Adachi Hanga (アダチ版画) in Tokyo and is in very good general condition.
