Charming original woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format made by the artist Ogata Gekko (尾形月耕). In the foreground a bijin (美人) beauty who, together with other visitors visible in the background, walks in an elegant garden full of irises in bloom.

The work, entitled then "Iris" (菖蒲), is taken from the series "Comparison of Beauties and Flowers" (美人花競), produced in 1887 by the publisher Takekawa Risaburo (武川利三郎), owner of Chikusendo (竹川堂).

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the obvious patina of time, is in very good general condition.
