Refined triptych of polychrome woodblock prints made between 1847 and 1852 by the artist Utagawa Kuniteru (歌川国輝) and depicting the prince Hikaru Genji (光源氏) who, during a snowy day, is warming himself by a ceramic stove and jokingly receives a rabbit made of snow as a gift from one of the women playing in the garden. The work, entitled "Snow" (雪), is taken from the series "Setsugekka no uchi" (雪月花の内), or "Snow, Moon and Flowers", produced by the publisher Tsutaya Kichizo (蔦屋吉蔵), owner of Koeido (紅英堂). The precious prints on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite obvious signs of aging and small imperfections on the margins, are in overall good condition.
