Precious triptych of polychrome large oban (大判) format woodblock prints depicting a fascinating parade of warriors, on foot and on horseback, inside the Fukiage (吹上) area of the Edo Castle (江戸城), the residence of the shogun (将軍), the military capital during the Tokugawa period (徳川時代).

The work was made in 1889 by the famous artist Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延), in collaboration with the publisher Bokuteu (牧テウ), and is titled "Shogunal Inspection of a Military March at Fukiage" (於吹上行軍上覧図).

The prints on Japanese washi paper (和紙) have the right signs of aging and, despite small relining on the back of the right table and some chromatic alterations due in part to a transfer of pigments between the sheets, are in good general condition.
