SOLD
Elegant polychrome woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format made, in January 1870, by the artist Utagawa Yoshiiku (歌川芳幾) and taken from the series "Comparison of the Flowers of Fukagawa at the Height of Their Beauty" (巽花全盛競). The work, produced by the publisher Tsujiokaya Bunsuke (辻岡屋文助), owner of Kinshodo (金松堂), portrays the courtesan Kanehisa (甲子久) of the Kinoeneya (甲子屋) in the company of her young kamuro (禿) assistant Kagome (か小め). The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), despite the right signs of aging and the presence of some tiny holes, is in good condition thanks also to an effective relining carried out on the back.
