Valuable bijin-ga (美人画) woodblock print of vertical large oban (大判) format, entitled "A Tokyo Woman After Meiji 30 (1897)" (明治卅年后東京の婦人) and made in February 1903 by Yukawa Shodo (湯川松堂), a refined nihonga (日本画) style painter active in the city of Osaka.

Shodo's artistic activity was concentrated in particular in the creation of paintings on kakejiku (掛軸) hanging scrolls but, outside of Japan, he is best known for the impressive series of prints "One Hundred Beauties Depicting Modern and Ancient Manners and Customs" (今古風俗百美人) from which the work presented here is taken.

The print on Japanese washi paper (和紙), produced by the publisher Wakita Ainosuke (脇田愛之助), is in overall very good condition.
